OK, that tells you my title. But really, who am I and why should you care?
I’ve been in the real estate industry since 2002. I decided to get my real estate license so I could represent myself in building my real estate investment portfolio. But the strangest thing happened. I fell in love with the ins and outs of real estate. I say it’s strange because I’m a Creative. For the legalities and intricacies of real estate to grab me the way it did? Hey, who knew?
So off I went into the world of residential real estate. I brought my creative marketing background and successful sales experiences with me and figured I would create success in no time flat.
That’s when the worst thing happened to me – I did. I got lucky….here’s why that was bad:
I grabbed my first client from sitting floor time. Three days after I started working with them, I had them in escrow on a high dollar property. And I thought, “Hey. This real estate thing is easy.” BIG mistake.
All my marketing knowledge went right out the window and I committed the cardinal sin. I stopped following my marketing plan! Referrals were coming from friends and family and I thought they always would.
Then I experienced things that I later learned were all just par for course in real estate – a deal fell out, a client jumped ship to work with another agent, another client decided not to move after all, etc etc etc. You know how it goes.
That’s when the Ghost of Marketing Experience Past came to visit. Just like Scrooge, my ghost gave me an awakening. I realized that filling my pipeline through VARIOUS methods all working together in a strategic way applied to REAL ESTATE, TOO! Huh. Go figure.
So I went to work revising my marketing plan, getting creative and doing the heavy lifting that a brand new marketing plan requires. I watched as my pipeline began to fill and deals started to close – and I made use of some creative methods.
As great as it was to watch things pick up, I found myself with an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up. I spent the next 4 years at a Corporate Marketing job at a Fortune 150 Title Company where I put together programs, courses, and major seminars for Realtors.
But being an agent had awakened my knowledge of what it looks like to be self-employed. Once you discover your inner entrepreneur, I think it’s almost impossible to make it go back to being dormant.
So in November 2007 I left Corporate America and went out on my own working with small to mid sized businesses on their marketing. I’ve worked with businesses, solopreneurs, tech start ups, speakers, authors – you name it.
But real estate always called me back. And while it was fun to help several brokerages with branding, strategy, and launching, I always wanted to find a way to get back to what I knew best and was the most passionate about – helping Realtors market themselves.
Since January 2012, I’ve focused my Marketing Coaching solely on Real Estate Agents. I’ve worked with brokerages Nationwide, Real Estate Organizations, and Individual agents to TEACH, COACH, and (here’s a novel idea) HELP.
I spend my days researching the different tools, platforms, and gimmicks being pitched to real estate agents. I do the research so you don’t have to. I learn what’s good, what’s not so good, what has promise, and what is nothing but a big waste of time and money.
So I take my research, combine it with my marketing knowledge and real estate experience, and use it for the greater good.
Since January 2012, I’ve helped hundreds of real estate agents and brokers by performing Marketing Audits that led to customized marketing strategy plans. I’ve taught countless workshops, coached countless agents, and led many mastermind sessions. And here’s the thing: what I teach WORKS. I’ve had clients who have significantly increased their client and prospect engagement, grown their database and relationship trust factor, and generated more traffic, likes, followers, blah blah blah.
WHO CARES??? The MAIN thing that matters is this: My real estate clients have used what they’ve learned through my coaching to GET MORE CLOSINGS!
